sneka Meeting May 29, 2019

We will be having a SNEKA meeting and killifish auction Wednesday, May 29, 2019. A couple of SNEKA members are going to the AKA Convention this weekend in Detroit and will be bringing back fish for those who couldn’t attend.  These killies will be auctioned at the meeting.  Since this meeting’s purpose is to auction killies from the convention, it will be a no-dues meeting

We also have a new location for our meetings. The Szechuan Garden Chinese Restaurant, Medway Plaza (Signs say Medway Place), 106B Main Street (Rt 109), Medway, MA. It is easy to get to from Rt. 495 and only 5 minutes away from Uncle Ned’s Fish Factory. The restaurant is in the same plaza as Ocean State Job Lot. It is across the street from a Burger King and Mobil Gas Station and right next to a Shell Gas Station.Their phone number is (508) 533-8888.

The Szechuan Garden is expecting is at 7:00 PM. They have a full bar and you can either chose from the Dinner Buffet or order from the menu. We will meet at 7:00 for dinner and will not start the auction before 8:00.

If you have never been to Uncle Ned’s Fish Factory I suggest you stop there before dinner. Uncle Ned specializes in rare fish you will not likely find elsewhere. He doesn’t have many killies, but he has a large selection of Corydoras, L-number plecos and other catfish. He also has a lot of tetras and nanofish, many rare cichlids and other hard-to-find fish. Plan to spend at least 45 minutes here.

I hope to see many of you there. One never knows what will show up at the convention and we will be bringing back a variety of killies not currently being kept in the area.

Friend and fellow killienut, Richard Weinberg, passes away.

It is with great sadness that I must report that our friend, Richard Weinberg, has passed away.  We regularly saw him and his lovely wife, Deon, at Northeast Weekend Conventions.  We will miss them.

From the Burlington Free Press:

“Richard Weinberg passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017 at UVMMC with friends at his side. He is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Deon (Morrisville, VT); a son Joseph and wife Erica (Cape Cod, MA); a step-son Damian (Jamaica); a sister Madeline Glick (Rochester, NY); a nephew David Relin his wife Lisa and children (Tampa, FL); a grandson Nicholas; granddaughters Grace and Olivia (Cape Cod, MA); and step grandchildren Trevor and Autumn (Cape Cod, MA); and several sisters-in law and brothers-in-law.. He will be greatly missed by his family, Jewish Community and many friends. Anyone wishing to contribute in his memory should do so at Chabad of Burlington.”

Welcome to SNEKA

SNEKA was started in 2009  to serve the Boston, MA, Providence, RI and Hartford, CT triangle, but we welcome members from farther afield.  SNEKA was founded as a way to get local killifish keepers together, trade fish and have a good time.

We meet irregularly, every couple of months or so.  We have no annual dues, but SNEKA members must maintain their membership in the AKA (American Killifish Association).  We do have meeting dues: either a pair of killifish (preferred), half-a-dozen juvenile killifish, a dozen killifish eggs, live plants,  another killifish related item, or $5.  The fish or other items are auctioned off at the end of the meeting.  If you are interested in killifish, you are welcome at our meetings.
